Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 3, 2025
Thank you for choosing SnapBrowse. Your privacy is our top priority. This policy explains what information SnapBrowse collects and, more importantly, what it does not. Our core privacy principle is simple: your data is yours. It stays on your computer. We never see it, collect it, or share it.
1. The SnapBrowse Privacy Guarantee
SnapBrowse is designed as a local-first application. All data captured by the extension, including screenshots, website addresses, page titles, and personal notes, is stored only on your local computer using your browser's built-in IndexedDB storage.
- We do not have access to your journal entries.
- We do not transmit your screenshots or browsing history to any server.
- We do not sell or share your data with any third parties.
Your journal is for your eyes only.
2. What Information SnapBrowse Collects (Locally)
SnapBrowse captures the following data and stores it on your device:
- Screenshots: Visual snapshots of the websites you visit.
- Page metadata: The URL and title of the pages you visit.
- Timestamps: The date and time of the capture.
- User-added notes and tags: Any text you voluntarily add to a journal entry.
- Extension settings: Preferences such as excluded sites and capture delays.
3. How We Use This Information
The data collected is used only for the core functionality of the extension, which is to display it back to you in your private journal dashboard. We do not use this data for any other purpose.
4. Your Control Over Your Data
You have complete control over your information at all times.
- Toggle capture: Turn automatic capturing on or off from the settings page.
- Exclude sites: Prevent SnapBrowse from capturing specific websites by adding them to the excluded sites list.
- Delete entries: Delete any journal entry, or all entries, at any time from the dashboard and settings.
- Export your data: Export your entire journal as a JSON file whenever you want to back it up or move it elsewhere.
5. Why We Need Browser Permissions
When you install SnapBrowse, your browser asks you to approve certain permissions. Here is why we need them:
- tabs & webNavigation: Required to detect when a page has finished loading so the extension knows when to take a screenshot.
- <all_urls>: Allows the extension to run on the websites you visit. Without it, SnapBrowse could not capture your journal entries as you browse.
- storage: Used to save your personal settings, such as the excluded list and capture delays.
- alarms: Manages timers for dwell capture and the daily data cleanup retention policy.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy in the future, especially if new features are added. If we make significant changes, we will notify you by updating this policy and the extension's store listing.
